TILE FLOOR REPLACEMENT

Austin, Texas

August 11, 2021

The toilet leaked for many
years and finally fell
through the floor.

First I removed all the rot
and replaced the framing.

Then I replaced the subfloor.

And finally I replaced the tile.

POOL GATE

Austin, Texas

June 30, 2021

I made this Red Cedar gate for
a client wanted more privacy
for their pool patio.

This iron gate didn't provide
any privacy.

I made a simple drawing. The
gate is held together by
clinch nails which act like
rivets grasping the boards
from both sides.

I made all the hardware on my
press from scratch and fastened
it with large landscape nails
mushroomed into washers.

I anchored the hinge pintles
and strike plate in the
masonry and hung the gate.

The gate was left to bake in
the sun and the hardware was
allowed to rust for a few
months until I returned
to apply linseed oil.

CAT PATIO

Austin, Texas

June 13, 2021

A client commissioned this
Red Cedar cat patio for her
14th floor balcony.

I made a quick rendering for
basic details.

It's made like my doors:
multiple layers of wood held
together by clench nails

The windows are cellular
polycarbonate panels for
privacy and insulation.

The floor of the cabinet is
made of hardware cloth to allow
litter to fall through where
it can be vacuumed up from
underneath.

The top makes a nice table
or bench from which to view
the Austin skyline.

I added a heavy sheet metal
back and a duct that meets
up with an existing pet door.

The existing pet door was
poorly installed on the
surface of the window so I
cut it down and fit it within
the window frame and blanked
out the rest of the opening
with heavy sheet metal.
