BACK YARD GATE

Cedar Park, Texas

June 12, 2022

This gate system is Eastern
Red Cedar with some pressure
treated pine.

I set the Cedar posts about
four feet into the ground.

I peeled the rest of the
bark and mortised a Cedar
4x12 into the tops.

I started the gate with 4x6
pressure treated Pine joined
by mortise and tenon.

I hung the gate frame on its
hinges and fit some stops and
a latch so it could be clad
in place.

The gate has tapered seats that
close against 1 3/8" pins set
into the posts more than
12 inches. The latch is a long
piece of 6 x 3/8 inch plate.

I bent the strike plate out of
1/4 inch steel.

The cladding arrived as 1 inch
thick live edge boards and
I beveled them 20ยบ at the edges
to obscure any gaps.
